brickfield school sets new record in mainstreaming children at nawada

Mainstreaming of children in Government schools and students’ residential homes in Nawada district of Bihar for the session 2022-23, under the Nawada Intervention Programme of the Brickfield School Project came to an end with a 2 days training for teachers of Government Schools in the district.

During the 2022-23 session a record number of 560 children have ben mainstreamed in Nawada. Out of this 560 children, 2 girls have been mainstreamed in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyala at Narhat Block, 26 boys at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Boys Hostel (NSCB) at Rajauli and another 17 boys at NSCB hostel at Kawakole. 515 children have been mainstreamed in Government schools in their native villages scattered throughout the district.

In addition to mainstreaming children, Village Awareness Programmes were held in 32 villages where several topics of social relevance were discussed. Those topics included the importance of education, Child Rights & Child Protection, Child Labour, Child Marriage and safe migration. In selected 5 villages, street plays were held by a professional theatre group sending a distinct message on these topics.

Awareness programmes were also held in 4 KGBV Homes situated in Kashi Chak, Pakribarawan, Warisaliganj and Narhat blocks. The programme was also extended to Utkarmit Madhya Vidyalay in the villages of Barat-Shivganj and Ajay-Vijay Nagar and the High School at Bagodar. TLM and toiletries were distributed among the children at the awareness programme. Sanitary napkins were distributed among the adolescent girls as part of awareness generation on safe and clean menstrual hygiene.

The Brickfield School Project team also celebrated Independence Day at the Model Village in Enkar. The sacrifices of our great freedom fighters were highlighted among the children of the village after raising the National Flag and singing the National Anthem. Sweets were distributed among the villagers on the occasion.

On 17th and 18th August, a capacity building training was held for the teachers of Government schools in Nawada. Objective of this programme was to equip the teachers with specialized skills required to teach children returning from the brickfields and mainstreamed in the schools. The programme was held at the Block Resource Centre in Nawada. 31 teachers from 31 Government schools of Nawada district attended the 2-days training programme. Certificates were awarded to the teachers at the end of the training programme.

Throughout the period, the Brickfield School Project team held several advocacy meetings with district and block level officials of the Education Department, KGBV Homes, NSCB Hostel for boys and authorities of schools in different villages. These advocacy meetings paved the way for the success of Nawada Intervention Programme.
