      Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre celebrates colourful Independence Day on 15th August
Independence Day of India is celebrated throughout KMWC projects on 15th August every year with great splendour, joy and respect for Mother India.KMWSC dedicated this day to all those brave leaders and fighters who gave freedom to this golden bird on this day. Many cultural programs were organized and children had a great time participating in them.3 programmes were organized in 3 different project areas on 15th August. They are as follows:
On this auspicious day around 40 girls from the 4 Adolescent Girls Groups of Canning Block1 under theSensitization on Anti-Human Trafficking Project participated along with KMWSC staffs participated in the celebration. Flag Hoisting was part of the celebration. This was followed by a cultural event, drawing competition, conducted by the project staff. Girls from the Adolescent Girls Group participated in all the activities and good performers received prizes and small packet of sweet.
Independence Day was celebrated at Sonagachi Centre in collaboration with Kadamtala Milan Sangha Club. The children along with the KMWSC staff members present in the occasion decorated the centre with tricoloured balloons. Each child was gifted with a balloon and wrist band to commemorate the occasion. As the preparations were complete the children at the centre were joined by children from the neighbourhood as well. 150 children attended the occasion which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. After this the flag was unfurled amongst the beats of the drum. 
KMWSC organized a gathering of children from different multipurpose activity centers at Muchibazar. Local councilor Shree Amol Chakraborty was invited as chief guest to hoist the flag and give message to the children present over there. He also distributed study materials to the children. Children performed dance, sang songs.The cognizant group also conducted few programs for the children present there. They conducted quiz and general knowledge for the children.
After the programme KMWSC team moved to shekhar Kunj apartment where RWA members and others were waiting to display the visibility board on child labor free apartment.They had flag hoisting and speech by the president and secretary. At the same time the president and secretary of RWA shekhar Kunj took resolution to protect the children of apartment and not to employ any child for domestic help in any house of the apartment. 

It was an eventful day for KMWSC team. KMWSC celebrated the 70th Independence Day through all these activities to pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters who had contributed a lot and fought for the Independence of India.
