Children’s day Celebration with Full vigour and enthusiasm at Canning
This was a Children’s Day celebration with a difference.Approximately 200 children from our project site in Canning Block 1,had gathered for a block level children’s consultation.They were asked what are the feasible changes that could be brought around them.They spoke their mind,highlighting the strong and glaring issues which are not taken care of.
1. Issues of gambling and plenty of country liquor shops around their locality creates a challenge for women and adolescent girls. Every day they have to take the route to go to school and other places where the local shop is situated.
2. Inadequate toilets and drinking water for the girls in schools is a challenging situation and many girls choose to stay at home during menstruation cycle.
3. Frequent power cuts and long hours of darkness during the study hours is a set back for the budding students.With their ongoing annual examination,they are finding it difficult to study in the evening.
4. Poor condition of the roads and water logging force them to stay at home and they take a lot of pain to reach school during the monsoon.
5.They are fiercely annoyed at the local clubs for blaring out the music system loud, beyond the limit. It is an insensitive act.
6. Eve teasing a major concern of the girls which they face every day while going out from their house.
Puppet shows and other games kept the children smiling.The puppet show was designed to convey information about child line A puppet show with The love and resilience of the children and their mothers in the Village left us with a feeling of gratitude and love for our own families. The programme ended on a happy noteÂ
