SENSITIZATION OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING PROJECT

On 7th September 2015, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre project staff conducted a campaign at Darikanath Balika Vidyalaya (Girls High School), in Canning on child protection issue. During the campaign a girl named Mahira Khatoon (name changed to maintain confidentiality) aged 15 yrs, a student of 11th standard along with her teacher approached Project Coordinator of KMWSC with her complaints.She shared that her parents are forcing her to get married and she is finding it difficult to convince her parent.She requested the coordinator to help her in stopping the marriage as she wanted to continue with her studies. Coordinator along with her project staff immediately informed Mr. Anindya Ghosh, District Child Protection Officer, South 24 Parganas and CHILDLINE India Foundation about Mahira. The project staffs followed up the case & on 8th September 2015 that the marriage was stopped by the Canning Police Station with active intervention of District Child Protection Officer & Childline.
