In a world where health is paramount, community health camps stand as beacons of hope, offering a lifeline to those in need. These grassroot initiatives play a pivotal role in addressing healthcare disparities, promoting preventive care, and fostering a sense of togetherness within neighbourhoods.
One of the key strengths of community health camps is their ability to reach people where they live, providing immediate relief to those in need. This accessibility is vital in preventing and managing various health issues, ranging from communicable diseases to chronic conditions.
On the 15th of September 2023, one Community Health Camp was organised in Dhapa, Kolkata, as part of the “Involvement, Development, and Empowerment of In-Need Individuals Through You” project, abbreviated as I.D.E.N.T.I.T.Y. This project is dedicated to providing education to children who are vulnerable to becoming child labourers. Moreover, the project places strong emphasis on raising awareness about education and other pertinent social issues among parents of these children and members of the community residing in the slum.
During the camp, a total of 102 patients were screened by a medical practitioner, who was assisted by a paramedic staff. Additionally, free medicines were provided to the patients based on the doctor’s prescriptions.
Our community health camps are more than just medical events; they are catalysts for change. They not only bring healthcare to the doorstep of those who need it most, but also empower individuals with knowledge, and build resilient communities. These camps also foster a sense of unity among community members. People come together to support one another, forming social bonds that strengthen the fabric of the neighbourhood. It’s a reminder that we are all in this together.
