On 4 November 2025, the Congregatio Jesu (CJ) and the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM – Loreto) formally merged into one congregation. This long-awaited union fulfils the vision of the foundress, Venerable Mary Ward, bringing together over 1,800 sisters worldwide under the shared charism of Ignatian spirituality.
The merger was officially declared at a special Mass in Loyola, Spain, presided over by Fr. Arturo Sosa SJ, General Superior of the Jesuits. Leaders of both congregations, Sr. Veronica Fuhrmann CJ and Sr. Carmel Swords CJ, described the moment as one of deep joy, gratitude, and renewed missionary zeal — a living witness to unity, peace, and harmony in today’s fractured world.
