From Brickfields to Bright Futures: Punam Kumari’s Journey of Determination

There are stories that quietly inspire – and then there are journeys like that of Punam Kumari, which stand as a powerful reminder of what determination, support, and opportunity can achieve.

Hailing from Elnar village in Nawada district of Bihar, Punam has successfully passed her Class 12 examination under the Bihar School Examination Board. She secured outstanding marks in Geography and performed commendably across all subjects – a remarkable achievement that reflects her consistent hard work and dedication.

Punam’s journey, however, did not begin in a conventional classroom. She was once a student at a Brickfield School in West Bengal, where children of migrant workers often struggle to access continuous education. Amid the uncertainties of migration and limited resources, her learning journey could have easily been disrupted. But it was here that a foundation was laid – one that would shape her future.

When her family returned to their native village, Punam was successfully mainstreamed into the government school in her village, with continued support from Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC). This transition was not just about enrolment – it was about ensuring continuity, encouragement, and belief in her potential.

What followed was a story of resilience. With determination as her strength and education as her pathway, Punam stayed committed to her studies, overcoming challenges with quiet perseverance. Today, as she steps into college, she carries with her not just academic success, but the confidence of having transformed her circumstances.

Her achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the impact of sustained support and inclusive education initiatives. It reflects what is possible when young minds are given the chance to learn, grow, and dream.
