International Women’s Day was observed on 8th March 2023 across different locations by projects under the thematic areas of Women & Child Protection and Development, Education & Health, Community Development and Skill Development.
At each location, the day was celebrated with joy and delight, with active participation of the project team and women beneficiaries. For the sex workers at Sonagachi served by our Red Light project, the mothers found is a way to express concerns for their lives and their girl children. The field teachers of the Tribal Community and Development Project at Sagar Island in Sundarban area, discussed the issues faced by women and girls. For many of the tribal women, it was for the first time they realised that a special day is marked in the calendar for them. The day was also celebrated with the women and adolescent girls under Antu Human Trafficking Project at Basirhat and the Human Rights project at Diamond Harbour. Mothers Group under Child Rights Project at Basirhat, along with the project staff, discussed several issues faced by them in the villages. Back in office, the young women of Skill Development Project gathered together and pledged to attain economic independence after completion of their vocational training programme. They thanked the Organisation for the training which widens their employment opportunity.
At every place, the women expressed their thanks to the project staff for being with them not only on this day but everyday throughout the year.
