17 years old Aritra Sarkar is a student of Class-XII in Sibnath High School at Basirhat. He is an active member and a Child Leader of the Child Parliament in his village
One evening, while returning home from tuition, Aritra noticed two men lying on the road at Baburasta area in Sayestanagar village of Basirhat. One of the men was severely injured and the other one was totally unconscious. Seeing no one around, Aritra booked a car and took them to the Government Hospital at Basirhat town.
On arriving at the hospital, the two men were admitted immediately. He then found out the residential details from the victims mobiles. Both victims were from Sahidpith village of Basirhat. Thereafter, Aritra informed the families of the victims. The family members arrived at night. Till the families arrived, Aritra alone handled and completed all admission and police formalities at the hospital. Once the family members arrived, Aritra went home.
According to hospital authorities, timely intervention saved the lives of the two victims. After this incident, Aritra became a role model in his village and school. His courageous deed was praised by the villagers and the local Panchayet.
On getting the news of Aritra’s courageous selfless deed, the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights shortlisted Aritra’s name for the Birpurush Aware (Bravery Award) 2021. On 20th November 2021, the award was handed over to Aritra by Dr. Shashi Panja, Honourable Minister of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal.
