What’s been happening at Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre

As this is out first news post, here is a brief update of all our recent news, especially of our anti-Human Trafficking project which is a new intervention of KMWSC.

I. Interview of candidates conducted for doing the survey of 1000 households in five Gram Panchayats of Canning 1 Block, South 24 Pgs.

II. Request letter to District Magistrate, South 24 Parganas for providing us permission to conduct the survey followed by the permission letter dated 25.02.2015 from District Administration.

III. Communicated with District Child Protection Society (South 24 Parganas) for their support and Cooperation for the Survey and followed by their consent letter.

IV. Conducted meeting with Taldi Gram panchayats for the survey and interacted with Anganwadi workers, ASHA health Workers and Self Help Groups on 20.02.2014

V. A sample survey of 1000 households in 5 GPs (Gram Panchayat- local self government). Sample survey Questionnaires has been used for information gathering- individual survey in person and the survey completed on 28.02.2015

VI. Submitted the Need Assessment Report to the Donor Agency (MWI-Spain) in the first week of March’15.

VII. Interview of candidates for post of Field Animators for the Project has been done on 03.03.2015. Five Field animators have been selected through an interview Process and we have shared with them with the vision and mission of KMWSC.

VIII. Formation of five Adolescent girls groups and community Vigilance Committee in the Five Gram Panchayats.

IX. Two programmes organised on Orientation & Formation of Adolescents Girls Group.

At Matla 1 GP and Taldi GP the programme was organised and they were informed about Child Rights and Child Line. They were oriented regarding the roles and responsibilities. The groups decided they will conduct monthly meeting for sharing their thoughts.

X. Two Programmes on Formation and Orientation of Vigilance Committee has been done.

In Daria GPand Itkhola GP the programme was conducted. They were oriented about KMWSC and its background, their roles and responsibilities. The committee will act as safety net in the community.

XI. In Five GP Office the project banner has been displayed for mass awareness.
