Because No One Should Sleep Hungry
In the narrow lanes of Kapalibagan, Motijheel, Bibibagan, and Radhanath Chowdhury — where daily life is a struggle for survival — children and women silently bear the brunt of poverty and undernourishment. Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) launches the Nutrition Project with a simple yet powerful commitment: to stand beside the hungry and restore dignity through nourishment.
This project reaches out to some of the city’s busiest and most overlooked communities, where the basic right to food often slips through the cracks. By identifying malnourished children and women, the initiative aims to connect them to a system of nutritious support. For those whose lives revolve around making ends meet, a plate of food is not just a meal — it is hope, healing, and the strength to carry on.
The Nutrition Project isn’t just about calories and nutrients — it is about care. It is about reaching out to mothers who skip meals so their children can eat, to children who go to bed hungry night after night, and telling them: You matter. You are not forgotten.
With every meal served, the project extends a message of solidarity. It eases the weight of empty stomachs and brings a glimmer of comfort into homes filled with uncertainty. In doing so, the project reaffirms what KMWSC has always believed: that compassion can nourish, and nourishment can transform.
