Launched in February 2025, Naya Disha is an impactful initiative based in the Hingalganj block of North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. The project is dedicated to identifying and supporting survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, child marriage, sexual abuse, child labour, and school dropouts who are at risk of exploitation and trafficking.
Naya Disha adopts a comprehensive, preventive approach, working to sensitize and empower local communities through sustained awareness and education on these critical issues. The project emphasizes strengthening existing local safety mechanisms by advocating and collaborating with key stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, the District Magistrate’s office, Block Development Officers, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), police, and local governance bodies such as the panchayat.
Core activities include providing therapy and counselling sessions aimed at reducing discrimination, stigma, and trauma. The project is deeply committed to restoring dignity and promoting social acceptance for survivors, ensuring that every individual is supported in reclaiming a life free from discrimination.
A key pillar of Naya Disha is community engagement. The project focuses on building the capacity of local residents, encouraging them to take ownership of safeguarding their own communities and fostering a culture of protection, empathy, and respect for all.
