Unfortunately in our country in times of crisis many children have no one to turn to for advice, support or assistance. Our involvement with Childline began when Loreto Sealdah students conducted awareness programme in schools, railway stations and parks, advocating a child friendly society. It is a National – 24 hours, free, emergency telephone helpline and outreach service for children in need of care and protection.
Currently, Childline operational in 255 cities, in partnership with 415 organisations across India. Childline provides intervention of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorships, emotional support and guidance. Childline in association with Loreto KMWSC does outreach and owareness and follow-up of calls referred by collaborative organisations; rescues and repatriates children when needed.
In 2013-14total cases intervened: 65 (which included restoration/ shelter/ rescue from child labour, child marriage, child abuse).
1098 is a toll free number common in all the cities of India under the project of Ministry of Women and Child Development Govt. of India.
