Child Rights Project

Caritas India has been implementing Programme: United for Child Protection – Protecting and Reclaiming Childhood in West Bengal in collaboration with 8 partners in West Bengal.
KMWSC is venturing out as a pilot phase from April 2019 to November 2019 on child rights and child protection in the district of North 24 Parganas, Block Basirhat-1, at 20 villages of 3 GPs (Sangrampur GP, Itinda Panitor GP and Gacha Akharpur GP) adjacent to the Indo- Bangladesh cross border areas. The child rights project is another area to look into as KMWSC has already been working with the seasonal migrant children of Brick Kilns in Basirhat- 1.
The project is renamed as Surokshit Shaishav (promoting safe childhood) addressing the following issues in the 20 villages:
Child Rights, Awareness on Child Protection issues, child marriage, child labour, creating Child friendly villages, Children clubs in the schools and villages, Re-integration of drop out children, Child friendly police station, strengthening village level child protection committees, sensitization and awareness on human trafficking.
Participatory Rural Appraisal on social and resource mapping, seasonal calendar was done in 20 villages. Advocacy and networking is going on with DM, BDO, Panchayat Pradhans, schools, SDPO, social welfare and labour department of the district, station master, RPF and GRP of Basirhat Railway station.

In 2020-2021 20 Child Club has been formed in 20 villages. 19 Mothers’ Collective has been formed in 19 villages to initiate and strengthen the local level child safety mechanism.
Child Friendly Corner has been inaugurated at Basirhat Police Station for the safety of the children as they come to the Police Station to address their concern.
