The Café & Bakery Unit is an innovative initiative by Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC), designed to empower the youth from marginalised communities by nurturing their baking skills. This program offers a structured six-month executive training course, conducted twice a week, where participants learn professional techniques while adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
More than just a training centre, the Café & Bakery Unit serves as a safe, inclusive, and vibrant space — welcoming beneficiaries from across KMWSC’s various projects. It’s a place where people can gather, share moments, and build confidence, while offering practical skills to underprivileged youths that can lead to sustainable livelihoods.
Adding heart to this initiative is the Food ATM, a compassionate collaboration under the same roof. Through this effort, hot and nutritious cooked meals are served twice a week to 100 individuals facing food insecurity. The menu is curated with care, and feedback from beneficiaries is regularly gathered through surveys to ensure quality, variety, and satisfaction.
Rooted in a deep commitment to dignity, opportunity, and service, the Café & Bakery Project reflects KMWSC’s ongoing dedication to stand beside the underserved—offering them not just a meal or a skill, but a step toward a better future.
