On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre marked a powerful day of awareness and action across North 24 Parganas through its Naya Disha and Surokhit Shaishav Projects — reminding communities of their shared responsibility to protect and preserve our planet.

At Ramendranagar F.P. School, Hingalganj, students gathered under the Naya Disha Project to participate in an interactive session dedicated to understanding the fragility of our environment. Through storytelling, discussion, and poster-making, children were sensitised to the importance of waste reduction, the harmful effects of plastic, and their role as change makers in building a cleaner, greener future.

Simultaneously, under the Surokhit Shaishav Project, an inspiring event unfolded at Gachha Akharpur Gram Panchayat, Basirhat-I, focusing on this year’s global theme — #BeatPlasticPollution. Child Club members, joined by Panchayat members and local community residents, engaged in a vibrant awareness session highlighting ways to reduce plastic use, conserve natural resources, and commit to eco-friendly habits. One of the most memorable moments was the planting of saplings — a symbolic act of hope and growth, rooted in the soil of collective care.

The day concluded with an awareness rally led by children, echoing messages of environmental stewardship through the village streets. Their slogans and handmade placards touched hearts and sparked reflection in every passer-by.

These celebrations were more than events — they were seeds of change, sown in young minds and watered by community solidarity.

Because when children lead the way, the earth finds new hope.
