With the return of migrant families from the brickfields of West Bengal to their native villages, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) has once again initiated its Source Area Intervention under the Brickfield School Project. This year marks a new beginning — the intervention has expanded beyond Nawada district in Bihar to reach West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, addressing the continuity of education of migrant children belonging to this region.

On 7th July 2025, two team members from the Brickfield School Project visited Chaibasa Sadar, the district headquarters of West Singhbhum. They were warmly received by the District Superintendent of Education (DSE). Upon learning about KMWSC’s work for the children of migrant labourers in the brickfields of West Bengal, he expressed his appreciation and encouraged the team in their endeavours. This gesture marked an encouraging start to our new journey in Jharkhand.

The team then visited the Block Development Office and shared the organization’s vision with the Personal Assistant of the Circle Officer, who was unavailable at the time.

The day continued with a visit to Kundubera village, where the team conducted an awareness session with the local community. Following this, they visited Prathamik Vidyalaya Kundubera, where they were graciously welcomed by Head Teacher of the school. After a detailed discussion, 11 children were successfully mainstreamed into the school — a significant first step in reconnecting these children with their right to education. The team will continue its mainstreaming efforts in different blocks and villages of West Singhbhum district during the next few days.

This milestone marks the beginning of a hopeful journey in Jharkhand, where every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.
