On 27th March 2026, the Surokhit Shaishav Project team of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) successfully launched the third phase of the project at Itinda Union High School Ground, Basirhat. The programme witnessed the presence of key government stakeholders and community representatives, including Mr. Sariful Islam (Itinda Panitir GP Representative), Mr. Uttam Mondal (Block Karmadhyaksha), Mr. Samir Das (Gachha Akharpur GP Representative), Mrs. Sangita Sarkar (Counsellor, Anwesha Clinic), local Sansad members, school teachers, and students, along with child club leaders and mothers’ group representatives.
The launch programme focused on outlining the objectives of Phase-III and sharing the implementation strategies of KMWSC, emphasising strengthened child protection mechanisms and community engagement. The presence of diverse stakeholders reflected a strong collective commitment towards safeguarding children and promoting their rights.
An awareness session formed a key part of the event, followed by vibrant recreational and educational activities led by children. A powerful dance drama highlighted the negative impact of child marriage, creating awareness in an engaging and relatable manner. A drawing competition among school students and various cultural performances added colour and enthusiasm to the programme, ensuring active participation and expression.
The event created a meaningful platform for dialogue, awareness, and community mobilisation. It not only informed stakeholders about the next phase of the project but also reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for children.
