On 30th May 2025, the Naya Disha Project team of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre conducted a vital village awareness programme at Uttar Mamudpur Sishu Siksha Kendra, with an active participation of 46 community members, including 8 men and 38 women. The event was further dignified by the presence of local Gram Panchayat member Selina Bibi, who offered her support and insights on local governance efforts.

The session focused on raising awareness around pressing social issues including human rights violations, child labour, early marriage, human trafficking, immunization, and other critical health concerns affecting the local population. With a strong emphasis on community responsibility and collective action, the team encouraged open dialogue and active participation from attendees.

Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, the programme sought to strengthen the local community’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities, while also highlighting the consequences of harmful practices and the importance of reporting mechanisms in safeguarding children and women.

The presence of women in large numbers reflected a growing awareness and willingness to address long-standing issues that often go unspoken in rural settings. The participation of male community members was equally significant in building a shared approach toward change.

This awareness programme marked another step in Naya Disha’s mission to empower communities with knowledge and tools to confront injustice, protect vulnerable populations, and foster healthier, more informed villages.
