On 16th June 2025, a School Awareness Program was conducted at Bakra High School, Basirhat, under the Empowerment and Leadership for Survivors (LES) Project of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre. The session aimed to educate students on the dangers of human trafficking and the harmful consequences of child marriage, both of which remain pressing concerns in vulnerable regions.

Through interactive discussions, real-life case stories, and participatory activities, students were sensitised about how traffickers operate, the importance of consent and legal age in marriage, and the long-term impact these issues have on their lives, education, and well-being. Emphasis was placed on recognising warning signs, speaking up, and knowing where and how to seek help.

The program also highlighted the role of youth as agents of change in their communities. Students were encouraged to raise awareness among peers and families, becoming ambassadors of safety and justice.

We were honoured by the active involvement of the Border Security Force (BSF), whose Anti-Human Trafficking Unit has been a committed ally in our mission to curb cross-border trafficking in the region. Their presence reinforced the importance of institutional collaboration and vigilance along border areas. Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre extends heartfelt gratitude to the BSF for their continued support, guidance, and participation in this critical awareness initiative.

The session received active participation and positive feedback from both students and teachers, reaffirming the importance of sustained school-based interventions in the fight against exploitation and violation of child rights.
