Rallying for Rights: Spreading Awareness with Border Communities

  • 12 May 2025 - 12 May 2025
  • 10.30am
  • From Kolbari to Ghojadanga, Indo-Bangladesh Border

On 12th May 2025, the Surokhit Shaishav Project team of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) organised a powerful awareness rally in collaboration with the 102 Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) and a local Panchayat member. The rally mobilised Child Club members from four bordering villages near the Indo-Bangladesh border, covering the stretch from Kolbari to Ghojadanga.

The central aim of this initiative was to raise community awareness on Basic Rights, Child Protection issues, and Health and Safety measures during emergency situations — topics of critical relevance to children and families residing in high-risk, vulnerable border areas.

With colourful placards, bold slogans, and vibrant community participation, the rally drew attention to the rights of every child — the right to survival, protection, development, and participation. The children, proudly walking shoulder-to-shoulder with BSF personnel and community leaders, embodied the spirit of empowerment, unity, and change.

In a region often marked by limited access to information and services, this rally served as an essential step toward building a protective environment for children, particularly by promoting awareness on child safety protocols, response mechanisms in emergencies, and preventing exploitation and abuse.

The active involvement of the Border Security Force and Panchayat member added strength and credibility to the message, reinforcing that child protection is a shared responsibility.

The rally not only informed but also inspired — igniting conversations, encouraging vigilance, and bringing hope to the doorstep of these remote communities.

“Where awareness leads, safety and dignity follow — together, we protect every child.”
