To mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre organised a powerful and engaging awareness event on 30th July 2025 under the Skill Development Project at its office in Kolkata. The event brought together students, trainers, staff, and the Director in a collective effort to shed light on the harsh realities of human trafficking and reaffirm our stand against this grave violation of human rights.
The programme unfolded through a series of interactive and thought-provoking activities. Students from the Skill Development Project (SKD) unit delivered impactful speeches, expressing their understanding of trafficking, its causes, and the collective responsibility to combat it. Their words echoed the urgency of awareness, vigilance, and action.
A visual gallery of hand-drawn posters, created by the trainees, highlighted the various forms of exploitation and the importance of safe migration, legal protection, and community support. Complementing these were curated video presentations that sensitively depicted the stories of survivors and the systemic challenges faced by victims.
One of the most moving moments came through cultural expressions — group dance performances by the trainees that symbolically portrayed the journey from entrapment to freedom and dignity.
The event served as both a platform for awareness and a powerful reminder of how education and empowerment are key in preventing human trafficking. It also provided a safe space for discussions, questions, and mutual learning among all participants.
“When awareness awakens, trafficking weakens — let’s stand together for freedom and dignity.”
