In the heart of the Sundarbans, a region globally renowned for its biodiversity and ecological importance, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) took a step towards a more sustainable future. On 30th July 2025, an impactful awareness campaign on the dangers of plastic pollution was held at Palpur High School in Manmathanagar, under Climate Action and Biodiversity (CAB) Project.

The campaign engaged students in interactive discussions, visual demonstrations, and thought-provoking activities centred around the theme of plastic waste and its devastating impact on the environment. Through guided sessions, the students explored the real threats plastic poses to wildlife, water bodies, and human health — especially in ecologically sensitive areas like the Sundarbans.

The facilitators emphasised practical lifestyle changes through the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Students were encouraged to become active change-makers in their homes and communities by eliminating single-use plastics and advocating for environmentally responsible habits.

This session served not just as an educational experience, but as a call to action — inspiring young minds to protect the unique landscape they call home. The Sundarbans, as a vital buffer against climate change and a cradle of biodiversity, needs its children to rise as its stewards.

Through this event, KMWSC reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community participation, ensuring that awareness leads to meaningful change.
