One Billion Rising Movement 2020

Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, the social development wing of Loreto Congregation, has been organizing One Billion Rising programme ,in the city of Kolkata since 2015.The One Billion Rising (OBR) is a global campaign to stand in solidarity against the exploitation and violence of women across the globe. This year, in its 6th year, KMWSC in collaboration with Loreto Day School, Elliot Road is organizing the One Billion Rising tentatively at Allen Park on 31st January, Friday 2020 at 3.30 p.m. This year the campaign is for our Collective Rights to make “every issue a women’s issue”. OBR is a global movement, founded by Eve Ensler, to end rape and sexual violence against women across the world. From 2015, in its first year hosted at St. Joseph College where we had 3,000 participants, we moved forward to reach out to 10,000 in our third year. From Jatin Maitro Park in 2018 we continued in 2019 catering to approximately 10,000 at the Simpark Mall, New Market. This year with your cooperation and support, we intend to break the 10,000 ceiling and reach out to many more. This event will see guest performances and a panel discussion by illumenaries in their own rights. The hosts will take the stage to get their message and resolve across. This annual event which is running in its 9th year globally will yet again support the cause of violence against women, minorities and ones displaced.
