On 9th May 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre successfully conducted a Capacity Building Training for adolescents enrolled in Brickfield Schools across Kalyani (Nadia), Basirhat (North 24 Parganas), Akra and Pujali (South 24 Parganas). Hosted at the KMWSC office in Kolkata, the day-long training welcomed 40 adolescent boys and girls, accompanied by their teachers, with transportation arranged for all participants.

The training programme aimed to build self-awareness, resilience, and life skills, offering the adolescents a much-needed break from their routine lives and immersing them in an experience of learning through play, reflection, and expression.

The day began with an ice-breaking game, helping the children open up and form connections. Participants were divided into five groups of eight, each group choosing a name and sharing their likes and dislikes, laying the foundation for deeper understanding.

Group activities were centred around self-awareness, helping each child identify their strengths and weaknesses, reflect on their dreams and goals, and learn through the engaging story of “The Wise Potter.” Two powerful short films — on Child Sexual Abuse and Child Labour — were screened, sparking thoughtful discussions and spreading vital awareness.

The energy soared with games and Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), allowing the adolescents to express themselves freely and joyfully. The programme concluded with gift distribution and group photography, leaving every child with memories of a meaningful, enriching day.

Nutritious breakfast, lunch, and evening snacks were served, ensuring that all participants and facilitators were well cared for.

Such initiatives are not just events — they are stepping stones toward empowerment, encouraging adolescents to dream, reflect, and rise.
