Ms. Esther Sulker of Calcutta Rescue Visits Basirhat to gain first hand overview of Sack Farming Project

On 17th December 2024, Ms. Esther Sulker from Calcutta Rescue, accompanied by the Director of KMWSC and the Project Coordinator of the Brickfield Schools Project, visited Basirhat to review the progress of the innovative Sack Farming Project. The visit began at the Resource Centre in Basirhat, where Ms. Sulker engaged with Lead Teachers from the Brickfield Schools Project and observed several ongoing initiatives, including:

Sanitary Napkin ATM: Supporting menstrual health and hygiene.
Adolescent Group Classes: Focusing on life skills and awareness.
Tailoring Class: Promoting skill development for women and adolescents of the brickfields.

The team then visited five sites where the Sack Farming Project is being implemented. During the visit, Ms. Sulker interacted with Brickfield owners, teachers, and children involved in the Brickfield School project. She was highly impressed by the thriving vegetables grown in sacks, which showcased a sustainable and resource-efficient farming model. Ms. Sulker expressed her appreciation for the progress of the Sack Farming Project, highlighting its role in fostering nutritious diet for marginalised communities. She commended the KMWSC team for their dedication to empowering communities and promoting environmental sustainability. This visit reaffirmed the significance of innovative approaches like Sack Farming in transforming lives and creating a greener future.
