Promoting healthy hygiene practices among adolescents is essential for preventing diseases and fostering lifelong healthy habits. With this objective, the Resurgence of COVID Project conducted a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) awareness session on 25th June 2026 for students of Classes VIII and IX at Sangrampur BKAC Institution. A total of 98 students participated in the programme.
The session focused on the fundamental principles of WASH, emphasising the importance of safe drinking water, proper sanitation, personal hygiene, and regular handwashing as effective measures for preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Through interactive discussions and practical examples, students gained a better understanding of how simple hygiene practices can contribute significantly to their health and well-being.
A key component of the programme was menstrual health and hygiene awareness. Participants received accurate information on menstrual hygiene management, including the proper use and disposal of sanitary products, maintaining cleanliness during menstruation, and the importance of good personal hygiene. The session also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, encouraging students to replace stigma with knowledge and understanding.
The interactive nature of the programme created a safe and welcoming environment where students freely asked questions, shared their experiences, and clarified their doubts. These discussions helped build confidence among participants while promoting respectful attitudes towards menstrual health and hygiene.
By equipping adolescents with essential knowledge and practical skills, the session aimed to encourage healthy behaviours that extend beyond the classroom into their homes and communities. Such initiatives play a crucial role in improving health outcomes, reducing stigma surrounding menstruation, and fostering informed, responsible, and health-conscious young citizens.
Through the Resurgence of COVID Project, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre continues to strengthen community resilience by promoting awareness, preventive healthcare, and healthy practices that contribute to safer and healthier communities.
