On 13th April 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre continued its commitment to the well-being of migrant brickfield communities by conducting 2nd phase health camps and awareness sessions under the Brickfield School Project in Budge Budge (South 24 Parganas) and Kalyani (Nadia District).

Across six brickfields—Nanda, PB, Das (Budge Budge) and Nadia, India, RBF (Kalyani)—the medical teams reached out to the most underserved families, screening a total of 207 patients. These included men, women, and children who often have limited or no access to healthcare due to their remote and transient living conditions.

Budge Budge:

• Nanda: 27 patients
• PB: 25 patients
• Das: 49 patients

Kalyani:

• Nadia: 36 patients
• India: 38 patients
• RBF: 32 patients

Needless to say, the patients screened were provided free medicines as prescribed by the Medical Practitioner conducting the camps.

The camps didn’t just stop at treating the sick. In an effort to promote preventive care and community awareness, health and hygiene awareness sessions were held simultaneously at the Kalyani brickfields. These sessions saw heartfelt participation from the community, with 32 parents in Nadia, 47 in India, and 50 in RBF joining in to learn about hygiene practices, nutrition, and early symptoms of common illnesses. At Budge Budge, more than 100 parents attended the health awareness sessions.

For many of these families, this was more than just a medical check-up — it was a moment of care, dignity, and visibility. It reminded them that they are not forgotten, and that their health matters.
