A focused group counselling session was conducted on 27th November 2025 at New Alipore under the Kolkata Slums Project, bringing together identified children and adolescents for a meaningful and supportive learning experience. The session centred on two essential themes — Self-Monitoring and Family Dynamics & Relationships — topics that directly influence emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and overall development.
Through guided discussions, interactive exercises, and reflective activities, the participants explored how self-monitoring can help them understand their thoughts, actions, and responses in different situations. The counsellor encouraged them to identify personal triggers, practise self-control techniques, and become more aware of their emotions — cultivating a foundation for healthier decision-making.
The second part of the session focused on family relationships, helping the children and adolescents recognise the importance of communication, trust, and mutual respect within the household. They discussed common challenges faced in family environments and learned positive ways to express their feelings, seek support, and resolve conflicts.
The safe, compassionate atmosphere allowed the participants to open up, share their experiences, and learn from one another. Many expressed that the session helped them reflect deeply on their roles within their families and understand how emotional awareness can improve both personal and interpersonal wellbeing.
Such psychosocial support sessions are vital in strengthening resilience, nurturing emotional intelligence, and empowering young individuals to navigate life’s complexities with confidence.
