On the occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre conducted an engaging and educational awareness programme on 30th July 2025 at its New Alipore Centre under the Kolkata Slums Project. The event focused on sensitising children and adolescents to the realities of human trafficking through creative expression and critical discussion.
The programme began with a powerful street play performed by the children themselves, portraying the vulnerabilities that can lead to trafficking and the strength of collective awareness and community protection. The performance, marked by emotion and clarity, left a deep impact on both participants and observers, making the invisible dangers of trafficking visible and real.
A poster-making segment followed, where children used colours, symbols, and slogans to depict the dangers of trafficking and ways to protect oneself and others. These visual expressions demonstrated not only creativity but also a strong grasp of the issue at hand, reinforcing the messages shared throughout the session.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion where the facilitators engaged the children in conversations about safe and unsafe situations, how to seek help, and the importance of reporting suspicious activities. The discussion also covered the role of family, school, and trusted adults in protecting children from exploitation.
By combining art, performance, and dialogue, the event created a holistic learning experience, ensuring the children left not just informed but empowered.
“Awareness begins with a story — and every child deserves to live free from fear.”
