Investing in the skills and confidence of adolescent girls is key to building a future where they can lead with resilience, make informed choices, and realise their full potential. With this vision, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC), in collaboration with Soroptimist International, organised a Youth Skill Development Workshop on 15th July 2026 at the KMWSC Community Hall.
The workshop brought together 30 adolescent girls from the Naya Disha Project, Surokhit Shaishav Project, and Tribal Community Development and Empowerment Project (TCDEP). The programme was also attended by field staff members and seven representatives from Soroptimist International, reflecting a shared commitment to empowering young women through education and skill development.
Designed as an engaging and interactive learning experience, the workshop focused on strengthening essential life skills, building self-confidence, improving communication abilities, nurturing leadership qualities, and preparing participants for future educational and career opportunities. Through participatory activities, group discussions, and practical exercises, the girls were encouraged to express themselves, work collaboratively, and develop the confidence to overcome challenges.
The sessions also emphasised the importance of informed decision-making, goal setting, and recognising one's strengths and aspirations. Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared personal experiences, and learned from one another, creating an atmosphere of mutual encouragement and growth.
Beyond enhancing individual capacities, the workshop reinforced the value of collaboration in promoting youth empowerment. The partnership between KMWSC and Soroptimist International created a meaningful platform for learning and inspiration, enabling adolescent girls to envision brighter futures and pursue their aspirations with confidence.
Through initiatives such as this, KMWSC continues to invest in the holistic development of young people, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and self-belief needed to become confident individuals and positive contributors to their families and communities.
“Empowered girls today, confident leaders tomorrow.”
