Empowering Her Future: Launch of the Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment Programme (AGEP)
13 Oct 2025
10.30am
Gosaba, Sundarbans
A new chapter of empowerment unfolded in the Sundarbans as Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) launched the Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment Programme (AGEP) at Gosaba, supported by Nnomi Network. The programme aims to create a safe and supportive space for adolescent girls — nurturing their confidence, self-awareness, and leadership while addressing key social challenges that hinder their growth.
The launch event witnessed an inspiring turnout, with three notable local stakeholders, 50 adolescent girls, and over 100 community members coming together to mark this moment of collective hope and progress. The participation reflected the community’s growing commitment toward promoting gender equality and safeguarding the rights of young girls in remote regions like the Sundarbans.
The highlight of the event was a mesmerising cultural performance by three young participants, who showcased their talent in singing — symbolising the vibrancy, creativity, and potential that this programme seeks to nurture. Their songs echoed the spirit of determination and freedom that defines every girl’s right to dream and thrive.
Through AGEP, KMWSC envisions empowering adolescent girls with life skills, education, health awareness, and social confidence, preparing them to become change-makers within their communities. By bridging knowledge with opportunity, the programme aspires to break barriers and open pathways to equality and self-reliance.
Together with community support and the partnership of Nnomi Network, this initiative stands as a beacon of empowerment — reminding us that when a girl is empowered, an entire community rises with her.
“When she learns, she leads — when she leads, she transforms.”
