Over four immersive days, KMWSC hosted a transformative residential training for 22 dedicated educators: 18 from Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre, 3 from Loreto Development Dharan (Nepal), and 1 from Rainbow Home Boubazar. The Level-1 Barefoot Teachers Training empowered participants with innovative methodologies to make learning accessible, joyful, and impactful for underserved community children.
Through dynamic workshops, teachers practiced child-centric techniques tailored for diverse learning environments. They collaboratively designed action rhymes to stimulate language development and engagement, and crafted low-cost, eco-friendly Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) using locally sourced resources. These tools — ranging from math manipulative to story cards — will enrich classrooms across their respective centres, bridging educational gaps with creativity.
The training fostered hands-on experimentation, peer feedback, and reflective sessions. Participants explored strategies to adapt lessons for varied learning paces, nurture emotional well-being, and transform rigid curricula into vibrant experiences. Evenings included collaborative planning, deepening cross-organisational bonds.
In closing feedback, trainees unanimously celebrated the program’s practicality. One noted, "These rhymes and TLMs will turn my classroom into a space of wonder—children won’t just learn; they’ll thrive." Another emphasized, "The residential model allowed us to live and breathe these methods, ensuring true mastery." All expressed profound gratitude to KMWSC for equipping them to ignite lasting change. At the end, all 22 participants were awarded the Barefoot Level-1 Certificate acknowledging their efforts over the last 4 days.
This cohort now returns as ambassadors of joyful learning, ready to uplift thousands of children.
“Equipping grassroots teachers with skills, creativity, and confidence to transform learning for every child.”
