As the new academic session of 2025–26 begins, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) organised a two-day Capacity Building Session for the dedicated teachers and lead teachers of the Brickfield School Project, reaffirming its commitment to quality education for the children of migrant labourers.

The training, held on 30th and 31st October 2025, brought together teachers from different project locations. On the first day, participants from Akra and Pujali (South 24 Parganas) attended the session, while the second day welcomed teachers from Sibdaspur (North 24 Parganas) and Kalyani (Nadia) — with Sibdaspur being a newly added intervention area from this session onward.

The sessions focused on enhancing teachers’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities, the core objectives of the project, and the importance of following ethical guidelines and safe practices while working with children. Discussions on Child Protection Policy (CPP) and the organisation’s Safeguard Policy strengthened the participants’ awareness of ensuring child safety, with all teachers signing the CPP as a mark of commitment.

Teachers were guided on lesson planning, baseline preparation, and effective classroom management, along with interactive activities such as rhymes, educational games, and group formation for Bal Panchayats. The sessions also emphasised advocacy and networking with local stakeholders — including police, health departments, and community clubs — to create a stronger support system for migrant families. In addition, information on government schemes like NSCB and KGBV was shared to help teachers link beneficiaries with essential entitlements both in the destination and source areas.

For new recruits, this training served as an introduction to the project’s holistic approach, while for the experienced teachers, it acted as a valuable refresher, reinforcing best practices.

“Strong teachers build strong foundations — and every empowered teacher lights the path for a child’s future.” .
