On 20th and 21st May 2026, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre organised two community-based skill development workshops under the Tribal Community Development and Empowerment Project and the Nari Shakti Project, encouraging creativity, confidence, and livelihood-oriented learning among women and young adults in the Sundarban region.
On 20th May, a handicraft-making workshop was conducted at Gangasagar for mothers and young adults under the Tribal Community Development and Empowerment Project. The session provided participants with an opportunity to explore their creativity through hands-on craft activities while learning new artistic and practical skills. The workshop encouraged active participation and created a joyful environment where participants could express themselves through design and handmade creations.
The following day, on 21st May, the Nari Shakti Project organised a jewellery-making workshop at the Learning Centre in Gosaba. Participants enthusiastically learned various jewellery design and crafting techniques, gaining practical exposure to creative work that could potentially support future income-generation opportunities. The session also helped build confidence and encouraged participants to recognise their own talents and abilities.
Both workshops aimed to strengthen community skills while promoting self-confidence, creativity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Beyond learning techniques, the programmes created spaces for interaction, collaboration, and motivation among participants, especially women and young adults from vulnerable communities.
Such initiatives continue to play an important role in empowering communities by transforming creativity into opportunity and encouraging participants to envision more independent and confident futures.“Creative hands, confident hearts – building skills for brighter tomorrows.”
