Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, under its Naya Disha Project, organised two significant awareness initiatives on 17th June 2025 in Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas, aimed at strengthening community understanding of human rights and protection across age groups.

The first event was a Sensitisation Dialogue Programme with Toto drivers at the Football Math Community Hall in Bakra. The session, conducted in the presence of Mr. Sirajul Gain, Secretary of the Toto Union, focused on the Fundamental Rights of individuals, including children, and the reporting mechanisms for rights violations. The programme engaged local transport workers in discussions about the importance of safeguarding children’s rights, recognising signs of abuse, and being responsible community allies in ensuring safety and justice.

Simultaneously, at the Hingalganj Health Centre, the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was observed in collaboration with S-DLSA (Sub-Division Legal Service Authority) and local health service providers. The objective of the event was to promote awareness of the mistreatment and neglect faced by the elderly, and to highlight the cultural, economic, and demographic factors that contribute to elder abuse. Community members were sensitised on how to identify, prevent, and respond to such issues, while emphasising the importance of dignity and respect for older persons.

Both events showcased the Naya Disha Project’s holistic approach to community empowerment — bridging generations, professions, and social groups to build a more informed, compassionate, and protective environment for all.
