On 20th July 2024, the Climate Action and Biodiversity project team organised a Community Awareness Programme at Shambhunagar in Gosaba, Sundarban. This event aimed to engage the local community on various crucial topics, fostering knowledge and involvement in environmental and social issues. The programme featured updates on kitchen gardening and tree plantation initiatives, highlighting the progress and benefits of these sustainable practices. Community members were informed about the importance of kitchen gardening in enhancing food security and nutrition, and the positive impact of tree plantation on the local ecosystem. Additionally, the event addressed child rights and protection issues, emphasising the need for community vigilance and active participation in safeguarding children’s rights. Discussions provided valuable insights into recognising and addressing violations of child rights, reinforcing the community’s role in creating a safe and supportive environment for children. The Community Awareness Programme successfully brought together residents of Shambhunagar, fostering a collective commitment to environmental sustainability and child protection. The Climate Action and Biodiversity project team remains dedicated to continuing these efforts, working closely with the community to promote a healthier and safer future for all.
