On 17th July 2025, a Health Check-up Camp was organised for the tribal community at the Tribal Learning Centre in Gangasagar village, under the Tribal Community Development and Empowerment (TCDE) Project. This initiative was part of Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre’s ongoing commitment to ensure access to basic healthcare services for remote and underserved populations.
The camp addressed the pressing need for preventive and primary healthcare in a region where accessibility remains a major challenge. A dedicated team of healthcare professionals screened community members across age groups for common health concerns, including respiratory infections, skin conditions, anaemia, and chronic ailments such as hypertension.
The check-up also included basic diagnostic services, personalised consultations, and the free distribution of essential medicines. Special attention was given to women, children, and the elderly, many of whom suffer silently due to lack of access to regular medical services.
What made the event particularly impactful was the trust and openness with which the community responded. The residents shared their concerns and received both treatment and guidance on nutrition, hygiene, and regular health practices.
The health camp also served as an important platform for reinforcing awareness on preventive healthcare, helping participants understand that timely check-ups and minor lifestyle changes can greatly reduce the risk of serious health conditions.
KMWSC remains grateful for the support of its health partners, volunteers, and the local community leaders who helped mobilise participation.
