Good health often begins with simple everyday habits. With this understanding, the KMWSC team organised a WASH awareness and training session on 23 September 2026 for girls from Classes V to X at Itinda Girls High School under the Resurgence of COVID Project.
The session began with a warm welcome to the students, followed by an introduction to the Child Protection Workers (CPWs), KMWSC and the project. The training focused on essential aspects of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, including safe drinking water, proper sanitation, personal hygiene and menstrual hygiene management.
Through discussions and practical explanations, the students explored how simple practices such as washing hands properly with soap, drinking safe water, using hygienic toilets and maintaining menstrual hygiene can help prevent illness and support better health. The interactive nature of the session encouraged the students to ask questions and openly discuss their concerns.
Particular attention was given to common misconceptions surrounding menstruation. The team addressed the students' queries through participatory discussions and provided accurate information to promote greater understanding, confidence and healthy menstrual hygiene practices. The six steps of proper handwashing were also demonstrated, making the process easier for the students to understand and practise in their daily lives.
At the end of the session, the students shared that they had gained new and useful knowledge about personal hygiene, safe water, sanitation and menstrual hygiene. They pledged to adopt these healthy practices and share what they had learned with their families and friends.
The session therefore reached beyond the classroom. As the girls carry this knowledge home, they can become young ambassadors of healthy living, encouraging better hygiene practices among siblings, parents and peers. In this way, awareness gained by one student can influence an entire household and gradually contribute to healthier and more informed communities.
“Empowering girls with knowledge, inspiring healthier communities.”
