On 1st August 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) organised an impactful awareness session on menstrual health and hygiene at Dhapa under the Landing PAD Project, aimed at promoting menstrual health awareness to replace taboos and myths with facts and confidence. The session witnessed active participation from 50 mothers and adolescent girls, reflecting the growing openness toward conversations around menstrual health in the community.

The session addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation and encouraged participants to adopt safe and hygienic practices. Facilitators provided practical guidance on the use, storage, and disposal of sanitary pads, while also highlighting the importance of regular personal hygiene to prevent infections and maintain overall health.

To complement the learning experience, free sanitary pads were distributed among all participants. This initiative was particularly significant for women and girls from economically marginalised backgrounds, who often face challenges in accessing affordable menstrual products. The distribution not only addressed an immediate need but also reinforced the message that menstrual health is a matter of dignity and a basic right.

Through open dialogue and interactive discussions, the programme created a safe space for participants to share their concerns and ask questions, helping break long-standing social taboos associated with menstruation.
