Beyond Myths: Promoting Menstrual Health and Dignity at Hingalganj

  • No. 11 Sandelerbil ICDS Centre, Hingalganj

Menstrual health is an essential aspect of the overall well-being and dignity of girls and women. Recognising the importance of creating informed and supportive communities, the Naya Disha Project organised a menstrual health awareness session on 18th June 2026 at No. 11 Sandelerbil ICDS Centre, Hingalganj.

The programme brought together 55 participants, including adolescent girls, ASHA workers, Anganwadi Workers, and members of the local community. The session aimed to promote awareness on menstrual hygiene and encourage open conversations around a subject that is often surrounded by silence, stigma, and misconceptions.

Through interactive discussions and awareness-building activities, participants explored the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene, understanding the physical and emotional changes associated with menstruation, and challenging harmful myths and taboos that continue to affect the lives of many girls and women. Emphasis was placed on creating an environment where menstruation is viewed with dignity and where girls feel supported rather than restricted.

The session also highlighted the role of families, health workers, and community members in fostering positive attitudes towards menstrual health and ensuring that adolescent girls have access to accurate information and essential resources. Participants actively engaged in the discussions, sharing experiences and seeking clarification on common concerns.

As part of the programme, free sanitary pads were distributed to the participants to encourage safe and hygienic menstrual practices. The sanitary pads were generously provided through the Landing Pad Project, whose support contributed to making the initiative more impactful.   By breaking the silence and promoting informed conversations, the programme reaffirmed the commitment of the Naya Disha Project to safeguarding the health, dignity, and confidence of girls and women, enabling them to lead healthier and more empowered lives.

“Empowering girls with knowledge, dignity, and healthy choices.”
