On 20th June 2025, Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) conducted a Beautician Workshop on Hairstyling as part of a joint initiative between the Skill Development and Kolkata Slums Projects. This collaborative effort aimed to enhance employability and confidence among young women through specialised vocational training.
The workshop was attended by 14 enthusiastic trainees from the New Alipore Centre. Held at the Beautician training unit of KMWSC, the session offered comprehensive training in essential hairstyling techniques — including hair care, basic cuts, and modern styling methods. The hands-on learning environment allowed trainees to practice their skills using professional tools under the guidance of an expert trainer.
Beyond technical skills, the workshop also focused on client handling, grooming etiquette, and creativity in hairstyling. It was an inspiring day where participants not only learned a trade but also felt empowered to pursue independent careers in the beauty and wellness sector.
This workshop is a shining example of how inter-departmental collaboration at KMWSC is creating real impact — offering underprivileged women the tools they need to build sustainable livelihoods and dignified futures.
“Styled with skill, shaped by strength — where learning becomes a livelihood.”
