Barefoot Teachers Training: Nurturing Hearts, Shaping Minds

  • 07 Feb 2025 - 07 Feb 2025
  • KMWSC's office in Kolkata

On 7th February 2025, KMWSC organised a 1-day training programme for grassroot level teachers engaged in providing education to children coming from marginalised groups. This was an endeavour of the Organisation under its Barefoot Teachers Training Programme. The day began with a serene morning prayer, honouring KMWSC’s tradition of grounding every initiative in humility and purpose.

Session Highlights:

Introduction:
Teachers explored the core philosophy of Barefoot Education — simplicity, empathy, and community-driven learning.
Understanding Children’s Characteristics:
Interactive discussions on child psychology, focusing on adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles and needs.
Qualities of a Barefoot Teacher:
Traits like patience, creativity, and cultural sensitivity were emphasised as pillars of impactful teaching in grassroots settings.
Equality vs. Equity:
A dynamic workshop clarified the difference — ensuring fairness by addressing individual challenges (equity) vs. uniform treatment (equality).
Creative Spark: TLM Workshop
Participants crafted innovative Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) under trainer guidance — think colourful flashcards, storyboards, and math games! These TLMs are designed to make lessons joyful and relatable for marginalised students, many of whom are first-generation learners.
Baseline Assessments:
Practical strategies to identify students’ learning levels and tailor lessons for inclusive growth.

Voices from the Training:

“Creating TLMs showed me how to turn abstract concepts into fun activities. My students would love learning now!”

Participating Teacher

“The session reminded us that teaching isn’t just about books — it’s about seeing the world through a child’s eyes.” KMWSC Trainer

Why This Matters:

Barefoot Teachers Training isn’t just skill-building — it’s about fostering compassionate educators who can uplift marginalised communities. By blending tradition with modern pedagogy, KMWSC empowers teachers to become change makers.
