Awareness Programme on Human Rights and Rights Violations

  • 17 Dec 2025
  • Kolupara ICDS Centre (Centre No. 176), Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas

On 17 December 2025, the Naya Disha Project team conducted a comprehensive awareness programme at the Kolupara ICDS Centre, Hingalganj, focusing on human rights and various forms of rights violations affecting vulnerable communities. The session was attended by the Anganwadi Worker of the centre and 46 community members, reflecting strong local participation and interest in the issues discussed.

The programme aimed to build a clear understanding of fundamental human rights while highlighting critical concerns such as child labour, child marriage, human trafficking, and the misuse of social media. Through interactive discussions and real-life examples, the team explained how these violations impact individuals, families, and the wider community, particularly women and children. Special emphasis was placed on recognising early warning signs of rights violations and understanding the long-term consequences they have on education, health, safety, and dignity.

An important component of the session was the discussion on community-based solutions. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their collective role in preventing rights violations and supporting those at risk. The team stressed the importance of timely reporting, community vigilance, and collaboration with local institutions and service providers to address these issues effectively. The misuse of social media was also discussed in the context of online safety, grooming, and trafficking risks, especially for adolescents.

The programme created a safe and open space for participants to share their concerns, ask questions, and engage in dialogue. By strengthening awareness and promoting collective responsibility, the session reinforced the idea that protecting human rights begins within the community itself.

The Naya Disha Project remains committed to empowering communities with knowledge and practical strategies to prevent rights violations and foster safer, more informed environments for all.

“Awareness today, protection tomorrow – communities standing up for human rights.”
