An attempt to Break Menstrual Tabboo among the young girls

  • 16 Sep- 16 Sep
  • 3pm-4pm
  • Jana Kalyan High School

The program intended to impart the knowledge on use of sanitary napkin and menstruation. The points covered under these topics are puberty; the bodily changes occur during this stage of growth. Menstruation, its cycle how and when it happens, the myths involved while a woman is menstruating and the do’s and don’ts during periods; how to use them carefully, how long to use and how to discard safely. While discussing about this topic there was less interaction from the children’s part as they were feeling shy. Menstruation which is considered a secret affair of the women could be felt here as children were uncomfortable to discuss it among their peer group. Due to this they have become conservative over this issue. After much interaction few were able to open up and speak about it. It was observed through interaction that there are yet many myths on menstruation which they still follow includes-not touching the tree while menstruating otherwise it will die, no cooking as it may spoil the food, they don’t even touch lemons, pickles, thinking it might get spoiled.
