  • 29 May 2019 - 29 May 2019
  • 10 am-4 pm
  • Canning II

Anti-Human Trafficking Project Canning- Awareness and Sensitization programme with the Auto and Toto Vehicles Union was held on 29th May 2019. The programme was attended by 35 ferry drivers from Daria and Doshana village in Canning I to the railway station. The vehicles Union is located near the Bethberia Station, two stations away from Canning. The importance of the vehicles Union is that all the 120 drivers belong to the villages and they ply to and from the remote areas ferrying between 9000- 9500 people every day. They are strategic partners in combating trafficking because most likely the traffickers use their vehicles. If they are aware then may be able to thwart many potential trafficking. The 45 minute long meeting helped achieve 2 objectives. One they all are sensitized about Human Trafficking and two is that they took responsibility of sensitizing their own family and 5 neighbors surrounding their homes in their respective villages. The Vehicles union Secretary has made proposal for another such meeting to be arranged for all 120 drivers where the Gram Panchyat and Panchayat members will also be present.
