A Day of Learning and Connection at Sonagachi

  • 30 Dec 2025
  • Sonagachi, Kolkata

On 30 December 2025, a group of 13 students and teachers from Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview, Australia, spent a meaningful and enriching day at KMWSC’s Red Light Area projects in Sonagachi. The visit offered an opportunity for shared learning, heartfelt interaction, and mutual understanding across cultures and contexts.

The visitors engaged closely with children and adolescent group members, spending time in their regular learning spaces. By observing ongoing classes, they gained deeper insight into the lived realities of the children and the significance of sustained educational and emotional support in their lives.

The day unfolded with warmth and enthusiasm as students and visitors came together through games, songs, and action rhymes. Laughter and participation filled the space, transforming it into a joyful and safe environment where children felt valued, confident, and encouraged to express themselves freely. These shared moments fostered trust, connection, and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.

The visit stood as a powerful reminder that meaningful change is nurtured not only through programmes, but also through presence, empathy, and genuine human connection.

“When hearts meet classrooms, learning becomes a shared journey.”
