Fight Against Child Marriage

Bahirbena is a small village in Sundarbans, West Bengal where young girls were forced to drop out of school due to many social economic factors like gender discrimination, child marriages and migration. Noori (name changed) was no exception. When she was forced to drop out from school in class 6 she could not protest against the will of her family and accepted her faith. She was just 15 but still soon her parents fixed her wedding date.

But Noori has witness the poor condition of her friends who were married off underaged. She gathers all her courage and took a decision which will change the course of her life forever she decided not to accept her parents decision this time and contacted CVC, Maitri Haldar, she then reported this case to the KMWSC staff Mrs. Bihtika Haldar who followed up this case and took the help of the child line of canning -1 block, to stop this marriage immediately.

With the help of Childline, Canning police and the BDO KMWSC team was able to successfully stop the wedding at the wedding day.

Noor expressed her gratitude to the entire team and looks forwarded to a future where getting married will be her own choice only after she turns 18.
