A ray of hope

Kajal is a child domestic worker. She is 19 years old and stays in Ram Chandra Bagchi Lane, Alambazar Ward – 7 along with her parents. Kajal got married 2 years ago, after the marriage she faced lots of problems in her in-laws house. Santu her husband was jobless & addicted to drugs. He used to even physically torture her every time so she left the house and started staying in her mother’s house.  Her father is bedridden for a very long time and her mother works as an adult domestic worker along with her younger sister to support and run the family. Her family income is approx 2000/- per mother, which is insufficient to meet the family needs.  Kajal somehow managed to complete her Class – V from a Bengali medium school (Bata School) which is near to her house. Kajal was identified by the MAC facilitator and was encouraged to come to MAC for sometimes, but her parents were unwilling to send her daughter to MAC. After lots of effort made by the facilitator she started coming to MAC later and was enrolled in the Beautician Training. She continued her 2 months training from Bablin Parlour at Dunlop. Since she was not able to afford the local travel, MAC facilitators helped her with that. Now she is working in Ritty Parlour and earning Rs.1800/- per month.

She and her parents are very happy now as she is not dependent on anyone. She is earning & supporting her family through the income. Kajal thanked Save the Children and Loreto for changing her life.
