Capacity building Training for the children of rural villages

May 16, 2018

Away from school for a day or even half a day is always exciting for students, and such trainings are always highly anticipated. The children have fun with new friends and they also return to the formal classrooms with a renewed focus and refreshed energy on their schoolwork. The children are excited to learn from someone new.  KMWSC took initiative to give training to 22 children, 8 adults (Female- 21, Male-14) from Sonapota and Chowlgola of Lotus Child project, Lakshamikantapur 24 PGS South. It was the first attempt of KMWSC to bring the beneficiaries from the project site of rural belt. The children had hardly opportunities to come to Kolkata. There was lots of excitement and curiosity among the children.

The children had separate sessions from the adults.

The children had the following programme for their capacity building through Audio Visual, Games and discussion:

  • Self esteem
  • Moral Values
  • Love for nature
  • Positive thinking
  • Team work
  • Leadership
  • Art and Craft making session.

Exposure visit

Getting away from the everyday atmosphere for an exposure visit of the Lotus Child programme is a welcome break in the routine for both the students, adults and the teachers. While their purpose is essentially to educate, they can also be fun bonding experience for everyone involved. The members had the opportunity to observe many things that are not available at school and get new insights into their learning.

They had a visit to Belur Math, a place of prayer and peace. After which they proceeded to Dakshineshwar Kali Temple to pay homage to their Goddess and express their gratitude. Then the group went to Eco Park a place in tune with the nature.

This training has given them exposure to city life, enhanced their general knowledge and enjoyed the whole programme arranged for them. They visited the places which they had heard of or dreamt of. Their dreams of visiting the city of joy came into reality. They went back happily with smiling faces.
